First try at Timelapse

Water Lily time lapse (24MB)

Just a simple setup - 720p30p, let it run for 3.5 hours at one frame per second and still had to speed up in FCP to get it this fast. (Had no idea how long it really took to open).

one question - I set the iris stopped down some anticipating more light as time went on, but it still blew out near the end (then I closed it down even more for the last 30 minutes). So how do you control exposure during timelapse without getting abrupt changes?

auto iris at it's default setting makes everything too dark imo. however, as you may know, you can adjust it to expose to your taste...

I think you should have filmed it more in closeup. Maybe even put up some lights to even out the shadows.

I've always stayed away from auto-iris for time-lapse. If you get something like clouds passing over or big light changes, it can cause some pretty wild fluctuations in exposure that jump all over the map. The same is also true for an over-zealous operator 'babysitting' exposure. Just gentle nudges of the iris occassionally.

In the 'Lily' clip, you can see where the rocks on the left blow out and then what the clouds do on the pads themselves.
