First time shooting a concert

Well, songs are in English. But I know it's ... not good enough. I recorded with manual focus and in fully automatic exposure. I know I have to do this in Vlog but I'm scared to do it just yet. One operator said I could use zoom more, to have closer views... Anyways, here it is - http://sonyalike.ru/show/quintet.
The sound is straight from the camera.

I feel like I need my Shogun Inferno soon :) for Vlog and focusing and just a bigger screen.

1. Manual exposure would have allowed you to gain an extra stop or two to bring out the people in the shadows without blowing out the highlights of the people in the light.
2. When shooting stage shows always try to be just wider than the people on stage (we even do this for dance shows) just to keep everyone in, but be as tight as possible.
For singers you can afford to change shot and get at least one portion of the song as a midshot.
3. You were in a bad position at the start when most had their back to you. If you were officially recording a rehearsal I would have asked them to consider the camera position (if you weren't able to move).
Definitely needed more light, even a camera light would have helped..

We all learn. my 1st effort, just over twenty years ago, was just an overexposed lump of white. you are doing much better than I did.

Cheers,

Vaughan

Thank you for the advice.

1. Definitely. I did know I'd need vlog. I'll try next time... on a rehearsal (this is actually kind of rehearsal)
3. That's a pretty small bar so there were no other place to be. And people come and go, so I guess that's the best I could get.

Light... yeah, that's something I could ask for.

Thanks a lot. This Saturday I'm recording at children's concert. I hope to do better.
