Any tips on doing the update. I have never attempted this on any camera. It looks pretty easy but I don't want to screw up the new camera. Thanks
Make sure you have a fully charged OEM battery. Don't use aftermarket ones for this...Make sure you have a fully charged camera batt.

I recently bought a DSTE via eBay and it shows battery levels in the screen. So DSTE has figured out how to make battery clones that appear to work. Note that I have not used it enough to say it works just as well as the OEM ones, and I would not use it to upgrade firmware in my camera... AlI didn't think there were any aftermarket batteries available yet, but yes.
Make sure you have a fully charged camera batt. Format an SD card in camera. Remove the card from the camera and using a card reader/writer copy the firmware bin file onto the fresh formated SD card. Put the SD card back into the camera. Power up the camera and then push the green-arrow-play-media button, when the menu asks if you want to version-up press yes. Go to another room and drink a cold beer, when you return the camera should be ready to go.
*The drinking beer step of course can be skipped and you can sit there and stare at it while it upgrades and powers-down and back up again, you can check if the operation was successful by reading the firmware version in the menus.
