First Time Director: Vegas Studio 9 or Pro?

I am planning production (and post) of a short (15 minute) narrative piece I've written. I'm on a budget. I plan to shoot on a DVX 100B. What will I give up if I buy Movie Studio 9 Platinum instead of Pro?

I've read that conflicting things about whether Platinum 9 will edit 24P or not.

Your thoughts are much appreciated. Thank you.

I'm not sure about the current versions, as I still use Vegas 7, and the last version of Movie Studio I used was about five years ago, but back then, Movie Studio only had three video and audio tracks. So tricky composites required to start at the bottom, comp it as far as you could, render, import, add more comp, and so on. It really sucked that you couldn't change anything after it was rendered so you had to get it right the first time. Vegas pro has unlimited tracks. Also, back then, Movie Studio's color corrector was slider based, as opposed to Pro which has the traditional color wheels. These two differences alone where enough to make me go Pro. Hope that helps!

Why don't you download the demo and try for yourself? That's what I did - and decided that the Movie Studio 9 Platinum Pro has all I need for the present. Upgrading to Vegas Pro is always an option later if it becomes necessary.

I shoot with the 100B and Edit with Sony Vegas Pro. Its an amazing system. Try it!! It can handle projects up to 90 min really well!
