GH2 First test on the paintball field

I finally got the nerve to take my gh2 out on the paintball field. I really had trouble keeping focus. The sun and wearing goggles made it even harder to see the lcd. I was using a Vivitar 28-210mm lens, because my 14-42 kit is too short to get some shots. 720p @ 60fps. I started out with a mono pod, and quickly realized it was too shaky. The tri-pod worked well, but kinda stuck me in a single spot on the field. I was wondering if you guys could give me some tips on keeping focus with a manual lens, or does it just take a lot of practice?

This is a quick throw together, i added a song just because i had it stuck in my head at the time. lol

I'd suggest the monopod braced against you. Or just brace the camera against you more.

But per your video. I'd suggest looking for more interesting spots on the field. Don't be afraid to move around on the tape line. And when you are shooting people in the snake, get down to their level. It always looks awkward looking down on people in the snake. Also, try to see what the player is shooting at. By behing behind them some how. It'll give you a clear look at the lane they are throwing down. And you might get lucky. Also, behind the breakout box is always kinda cool too.

You just have to find out where the refs let you stay. Since, it's their field.

But paintball is fun to shoot, but really hard to edit. It's why it never made it to TV. The game is pretty boring to spectators. I was shooting the IAO in 2005. And there isn't really much going on, only so many places to put cameras. And everyone was fighting over those spots, to the point where people would jump in front of your lens. It's not pretty.

But yeah, just look for different places to shoot from, and cool angles. Check out some of DerDers DVDs, 720 productions did a good job too, and MWAG (monkey with a gun) did a fantastic job too.

Yeah, I have owned every paintball dvd that has came out since "push" from 1998. lol
Thanks for the advice. Ive been trying to learn to make paintball videos for about a year now. Up till this point i have been using a canon hv30, but nothing in my budget can compare to the dslr's for quality. This my first time using a camera like this, so i have no clue about the basics of photography. lol I have found out that i can get a lot of older canon fd mount glass for the price of panny lenses. They just seem really hard to use. Maybe i am shooting myself in the foot.

Should i save up for the 14-140mm panny lens or stay with the manual fd glass i am using now?

my budget is almost nothing. so a $800 lens is a big hit for me.
