First short with my new HMC150!

So I finally took the plunge and drove to B & H to get my new baby. Coming from a DVX the change was smooth enough as I'm sure many of you know. So it wasn't long before I wanted to film an actual little short to see what she can do. I am very impressed with the image quality (though I'm sure I still have MUCH to learn to optimize it) The following is my first "test" short with it and I would greatly appreciate any and all critique.
Thanks so much guys and gals!

Very cool.....although I cannot critique I am still fighting to get more of a film look.....I am shooting at 1080p/24 and 720p/24 but it still looks like video. I am still researching and find that lighting and DOF helps, but do you have any suggestions to get more of the look that you have....I bought Barry Greens book and that is helping but doesn't address the technique, which I understand is beyond the scope. Any suggestions for me? Here is a link to some DOF stuff shot in 1080p/24...maybe you can shed some light.

First, thanks for the kind words, I (personally) feel a lot of it comes from experience and testing (as you're doing). While certain settings ie. shutter speed, iris setting, zoom length will certainly help achieve that "look" (Then there's post work as well) I agree that good lighting and composition will really put your footage over the edge. Don't be so eager to shove the zoom to 99 every time. We all love DOF but I shot this in a very confined space and with the exception of a very few shots I never really pushed the zoom too far. I saw your footage and thought it was very nice but (for example) if you had smoother shots composed well and perhaps waited till "the magic hour" when the sun is about to set your footage would really pop. I am by no means any kind of pro and have SSSOOOO much to learn but I've put ALOT of time into reading books on lighting and composition and feel they've helped me alot more than anyone's "settings" ya know.
I hope I didn't come off too "preachy" just lending my 2 cents.

Thanks for the tips! My biggest problem is probably patience.....I shot this on my lunch hour and wasted half the time walking in circles looking for something colorful to shoot, and of course the sun was directly above and harsh. It is really nice though, to see the progression and improvement as I learn new things.....and this camera has really opened up some inspiration. This is my first camera of this type. I have owned a Sony HDR-HC1 since they first came out (Around 5 years) and that is all I have been able to experiment with so this is a whole new ballgame. Who knows where this will lead.....
