Im going to school for film making and acting so I decided I needed an entry level professional camcorder, so I got the dvx 100. I've had this film in my head for so long, but still trying to formulate a good plot. I went to our local park with a friend for about an hour and the purpose of this short film / teaser if you will, was to get an idea of what I wanted and didn't want for a possible future full length film I want to shoot. Yes it's Samara from The Ring, but I had to put her in spots in this park that has an old closed swimming pool... a film maker's paradise. I thought it was really creepy. Let me know your comments and suggestions. Sorry it's a little dark partially from youtube's compression... watch it full screen. Thanks everyone!

Great locations! You're well on your way to developing some skill...I've always believed that the best way to learn how to do this stuff is to try out what you've seen done elsewhere. Once you know what works, and you've perfected it...then you can create your own masterpiece.
One thing I would suggest on this piece of footage is to crop your editing effects so that they take place within the widescreen. It pulls you out of the footage when the letterbox is effected by the same thing the footage is...

You've achieved a really frightening atmosphere. I agree the locations are very good and so is the music.

Very well made.

I hope to watch the whole film soon.

Blind, thank you for pointing that out about the effects in the letterbox!! I never noticed that until now! How would I crop effects in Adobe Premiere Pro 2?

Put two black bars ONTOP of all your layers. This will make everything underneath or black bards.

To add black bars, either do it manually by adding a black matte and cropping the top and bottom (this consists of two layers, just make sure their both on top) or, you can just add a Widescreen matte, that I think is under effects. I know in Final Cut, it has it's own Widescreen black bars (or a matte)

Good luck Matt.

Matt, nice work. I like your ability to capture the horror style. One thing that impresses me is the sharpness. Though I would suggest avoiding flat light. A good controllable contrast ratio makes for a more pro look.

I'm using the HVX which should be a lot sharper, but I still think yours looks sharper. Admittedly I'm also using 35mm adapter which tends to soften, but make the comparison yourself. This is a full crew and HMI lighting.

Your definitely doing a great job given how quickly and easily you put this together.

Keep it up!

Great job Sam! That looked really film like! Loved the fast trailer style editing too! Went well with the score.

By the way, I am really considering a 35mm adapter. Does anyone know of a cheap adapter I can get for like $200 for my DVX100?

IN Short NO!

Adapters are worth nothing without good lenses anyway. Lenses are always going to cost, but they are also an invenstment. Unlike the cameras, the lenses tend not to plummet in value.

Redrock seems to be the best overall value, but there are lots of options available on this forum used. I suggest you do a search. I've seen three active just right now.
