First Redrock footage

Hey, this is my first post with footage from my new HVX...I LOVE IT! Here's some footage with a Redrock M2...50mm Nikkon Lens. It's not very much footage but it so pretty! Very pointless though, so if you don't have time to download it then do it later. Just kinda messing around.

It's 25 MB so you might want to right click and save as

Wasn't fooled. Looked like-- at best-- you hadn't focused in on the ground glass or zoomed through all the way.

You should be really sorry for the mislead. =P

thats not what a 35 adapter does. You just Color corrected the footage. the Depth of field looked about normal stock lens to me.

darn... though I had something there haha. What would be different about it....if it was...some of the stuff ive seen from the M2 looks just like this. Vignetted, soft, shallow DOF (but not as if the iris was OPEN...yunno?) Either way im VERY satisfied with the footage that the HVX puts out...

OK. then I'm going to take it down for now and try to do that fake DOF in post...I'll post it up later....no real point in any of this. I just want to try it.

it was nicely colorcorrected. But the 35 adapter does somethign different entirely. it uses the Field of View and depth of field chaarachteristics of 35mm lenses. bad 35adapters Vingette. thats another give away sign.

OK. Well thanks for the kind words... I guess I'm sorta new to it and thought it looked like an adapter because of the vignette i added and the DOF from the full zoom. Oh well, I will put it back up so people aren't confused as to what we are talking about. Thanks for the explanation. It woulda fooled me *blushes*.

You need to see something really out of focus in the image to give it the look you want. Just deteriorating the image a bit in post is a far cry. It would be cool though if you could get closer to want you are aiming for. So keep trying!

By the way, Sheppy--

You could achieve what you're looking for with Layers and blurs or defocus blurs in programs.

What NLE are you using? DO you have access to After Effects or Apple Motion? It could get really painful doing it that way, which is why I'm sure people opt for adapters when wanting to achieve "cinematic" depths.

Yes I have After Effects. I used it to color correct this with blending modes. It helped soften the image. Then I used magic bullet to vignette to try to make it look like I wasn't zoomed in enough on the GG. Color correcting was a mix of blending modes, curves, color balance, and brightness/contrast. I don't think I am going to waste my time trying to acheive a real shallow depth of field...I just wanted to see really if it was a big enough difference for people who have experience with them. Maybe in the future when I learn more how to light I will get one. Until then I'm really satisfied with what I can come up with with the stock lens. I'm still curious though to see if anyone DOES actually think at first it IS footage with an adapter...maybe somebody will...who knows :)

Sheppy, I'm brand new to this stuff, and the footage looked amazing to me. I wouldn't say its the same as the M2 footage I've seen, but to the naked (and untrained) eye, it looks like film.

I just got the camera myself, and haven't recieved the 8GB P2 card yet so I've been messing around with the 480 24p footage and that even looks beautiful to me. But again, I'm new to this realm. Good work.

i wish panasonic had devised a better recording method than million dollar cards.... that store all of a few minutes worth of footage..... sigh

agreed. It sucks to be recording for only three minutes and then get that 1 minutes warning in the top :(. Can't wait to get more of them though haha.
