Im going to be filming a band on the 21st of November. I will be using a DVX and a Canon Optura Xi. Both support timecode.

I will be the only person shooting so I won't be able to press record at the same time. Is this as simple as capturing the 2 video tapes and using premiere to sync the timecode? I don't quite understand how it works.

don't worry too much about time code sync. It's handy, but far from critical.

How long is the shoot? (and will there be breaks of a few mintues [long enough to change both tapes if necesarry]?)

The shoot will be for quite about 2 hours but it's a band so I will have time to change tapes when necessary.

Whats the easiest way to make sure both tapes are in sync in Premiere? One camera will be in the back of the venue by the soundbooth and the other will be a handheld I will be using right in front of the stage.

yup, just roll both cameras about at the same time, and try and make sure you have a good sync point - like a camera flahs, or a rimshot with a symbal (take the sync from video, not sound, as the back of the house camera may have a bit of a delay if it's a large space)

Of course be sure to stop early enough that neighther camera runs out of tape.
Then simply manually sync up the captured clips in a timeline in premere and use that as your multicam source.
