First real HD shoot.

After goofing off with the camera for many weeks now and shooting quite a bit of DV for my side jobs, I finally shot my first real, well-lit, HD stuff yesterday. And after watching it just now on my Dell 2405, all I can say is WOW! The color and clarity are phenomenal!

But the thing that most impresses me is how well this camera handles the high end. Part of what I shot was in a kitchen with all white cabinets. Daylight was pouring through the windows and I was blasting another 2,800 watts all over the room and the whites just look fantastic --- I didn't lose any detail. Of course, with all that white, the 4:2:2 color totally pops on everything else. I am completely giddy!

I shot a dupe of a commercial that's currently airing (Colgate -- "pink in the sink") to prove to a client that this camera is up to snuff. It wasn't a paying gig, but will be great for my new HD reel.

That's great. The camera does handle highlights very very well. As long as there's a hot spot and highlights.. there's no noise in the blacks. That's been a key thing for me... Making sure it's not under-exposed and that there is something bright in the frame...

I'm doing my first dramatic shoot this weekend. everything else has been run and gun/ exteriors or available light... Cant' WAIT.

I will post as soon as I get them onto the computer. Everything's still on the P2 right now. BTW, I mention the highlights because, to me, one of the tell-tale signs of "video" is blown-out and/or "blooming" highlights.
