Hey everyone,

This is my first time posting on the boards. Im new to shooting my own stuff. These days you can't rely on anyone so I figured I'd learn to be my own DV DP I took the camera out yesterday.. Here are a few grabs. Let me know what you think.

Re: First posted grabs

They loaded for me.

It looks like you used a 35mm adapter? I like the grab of the bird. Very cool.

Re: First posted grabs

For some reason I'm digging the colors for the second pic. it's nice. Are they your family?

Re: First posted grabs

I really like the second and third one...any special stuff done to em? color correction/mini 35 adaptor etc? good job.

Re: First posted grabs

Oh my god. These are your FIRST attempts at using the camera?

Wow. Fantastic. Add a story line and you will have all the chicks, drugs, and fame you will ever need.

Re: First posted grabs

Wow, thanks everyone for the feedback. No added extras, thats just the DVX 4:3 with some color correction.

I blazed one in the park and had to take a walk with my DVX.

Thank again for checkin my stuff out. I've been watching everyone's work get better and better I feel like I know most of you cats. You are all talented. Hate to sound cheesy but I learned so much from you guys. Way better than film school.

Peace,
Steve

That's right across the street from my house. I ride my bike there all the time. I can get there without crossing a single street. Just a ride through the soccer fields and the bike path goes under Balboa Blvd. The water there is kinda stinky. But I've taken some great photos there as well as some DVX shots.

I actually took some cool photos under that overpass.

Sorry those arent DVX grabs. Just digital camera stills.

Re: First posted grabs

I love the look of those stills. How would motion shots look?
I ask this because..well...I love the look of those stills. LOL.
But I'm a little woried that they might not look too great in a video, or on a bigger screen. I've spent so much energy and time lighting stuff just because "you're supposed to" but I love the darker corrected shots, and that matrixy, sky captainy spooky grainy darkness...I guess I'll try it out. You should see my doc footage! Half of it is me dialing through the iris! I'm way too anal about levels. You'd probably have a seizure watching my stuff these days.

What happens is, I'll get a shot that I like, and then I'll be like "But wait, that'll probably look like crap later...I'd better let more light in....and then I over expose for detail and I'm like "Crap, that's all blown out. It looks way too bright!" (this is all on reality and doc stuff, so I don't have the luxury of repeating a take.) But even in some narrative stuff, I second guess my lighting choice.
What's what?

Re: First posted grabs

the motion looked pretty good considering I didnt do much correcting. The problem is I didn't bring the tripod out so I was forced to keep the clips short.

I'll have a site up pretty soon. Where I'll be posting clips and all sorts of crap.

I'm headed out to NYC tomorrow...With my DVX ;)
