First day shooting outside in the snow, overexposed a few shots. Still getting used to the new cam, you really have to trust the zebra's!!
It's a learning experience, that's what tests are for.

80 and 90% I will most likely change them to 70 and 90%
When I was seeing Zebra's, I was thinking to myself it will look a little better if I expose just a tad higher. I will pay good attention to them from now on. I was surprised at how much detail was actually left in the image though, as I was trying to bring some of it back in post. I had a few shots that were blown out so bad that her white hat blended in completely with the snow. I tried messing around with a quick color correct, just to see what would happen, and I was surprised at how much detail was actually there. There was enough to bring the hat back and separate it from the snow. My old XHA1 footage would have never been able to that.

My first experience with the AF100, I was tempted to overexpose too. DON'T. Always trust the zebras.

You can change the LCD brightness to pump it up some, to remove that instinctual tendency to want to expose higher. But you shouldn't be setting exposure based on how the LCD looks, you should be setting it based on what your exposure tools are telling you. The zebras don't lie, so always trust them.

haha I should have known better. It's just a gut feeling for some reason. I'm so used to KNOWING what I would get out of my older cams based on what it would look like on the LCD, that I could go with it and return good results. It always takes me a little while to get aquatinted with a new cam. It was a great learning day though! New to the interchangeable lens world, and loving the results! Really makes shooting fun by adding a whole new aspect to creating images. I can tell my shooting style and skills are going to jump up a few notches within this next year.

Thanks for not being to harsh on me with the exposure! I almost didn't post it because I was afraid of the onslaught of comments it might receive. Where you would you set your set your zebra's 70 & 90%?

The inherent problem though is that most of the information is dedicated to highlights so if one vastly underexposes they really throw away a lot of data. But, if you clip... you clip.

So don't clip... why would someone want to "vastly" underexpose?

The #1 rule of video that we've always, always obeyed from day one, is "don't overexpose."

Well, I guess my point is that I really wish somewhere down the road we would have gotten rid of that exponential compression scheme that so favored the highlights. But, I suppose that is a moot point.

Reviewing my scene files, and it appears I had changed my scene file f6 to Cine D (which I shot this with) thinking it was B. Press. Son of a....
I guess that explains a lot.
