First outdoor shoot.... I'd love some pointers!

Hello all,

I'm new here, but have been a lurker for quite some time. I've been shooting still photography with DSLRs for quite some time now, and just this year have taken a job at my church where I have started doing more video work. I use a t2i with Magic Lantern, and 100% of the stuff I've done so far has been filmed inside in a controlled environment. I usually set up some lights (really crappy clamp mounted lights, but they do the job), and record audio with a cheap lav into a zoom h1. I've got a long way to go, and I'm learning with each project how to make it better.

My next project is going to be done entirely outdoors. We'll be doing a "survivor man" type of thing as a preview for our next sermon series. It's basically just going to be video of one our staff members out in the woods trying to do survival activities (start a fire, build a shelter, fish, etc...). It'll only end up being a a few minutes when all is said and done, but I really want those few minutes to be of high quality. I'd love some pointers on how to shoot outdoors. I'm used to being able to control my environment thus far and since we'll be out in the woods (with minimal gear), I know that I'll be at the mercy of my environment. Are there simple ways to control the light? What would be my best bet for getting decent audio? Any pointers you have for this situation? Thanks!

-Jon
