First music video

I found this farm house about 8 miles west of Ann Arbor, MI. Then I convinced the band to wake up and get out there at 4am - we wrapped by 3pm. DVX100a at 1/30 shutter. Some use of bounce boards and silks. Extensive use of dolly track (with annoying overhanging grass blades). Chroziel matte box with polarizing and ND grads. Time lapse shot with a Canon digital Rebel and later chroma keyed in. I think the 1/30th (DVX) really helped blur the moving backround. Faces/bodies could be brought up a bit in the first half, editing dolly work needs some tweaking, etc. etc.. I don't know... you tell me. please. Thank you.

Good camera work and the song was okay. To me, the song was pretty boring. It just sounded too much like a million other songs with the same chord & song structure and it was kind of depressing. From that video you couldn't really tell if the band had any talent because it almost seemed like they were trying to be kind of "off" with the music and the vocals.
Nice cinematography, but the old style song with the younger band just doesn't work for me.
I give it 3.8 out of 5 stars for cinematography, but 2 overall.

That was nice, granted my socks didn't blow off in enthusiasm, but I enjoyed the simplicity. The only thing I wasn't sure about was the clouds in the guys pants, and did the girl get sunburned later on?

I'm with Peter, I felt like the clouds in the pants didn't fit. Other than that it was good. The shots were very nice. I'm sure they look a lot better full res.

I couldn't get through it. The song was really boring to me. The footage looked awfully video-ish. It also didn't look like that guy was really playing the guitar.

I'm "researching" tactics for doing my first music video and learned from this. Thank you. As for the song, that's not my gig and won't comment on it 'cuz you don't care :) As for the camera work, definitely not bad. Nice movement 'cept for the handheld stuff - probably going for that handheld look, but was a but unsmooth. Nice effects with the clouds, would have been interesting to see that throughout (provided the sky was available throughout). I noticed some cutting off of other band members' heads when moving around a subject; if the other member had been out of focus, would have been less "eek!" Wardrobe seemed okay too, it's amazing how important that one thing alone can be. Noticed too that the main guy's eyes ended up way out of the top third a couple of times while it seemed that he was the object to be looking at. For a first music vid, I give it a 5/5. Keep it up!

The band seemed like they didnt enjoy being there at all. And in one of your shots theres something up in the top right corner of the screen. I didnt like the song either, but that doesnt mean your skills are bad, just not my cup of tea. I couldnt make it all the way through, it lacked emotion and it seemed repetative.
I personally didnt like the rolling clouds, because their perspective didnt line up with what it would realistically. But I guess thats what you were going for.

I really liked this video, great work. The feel of the video was great for the piece and the visual style mached the music. It was also well shot. The cloud effect was cool but spend a little more time and get the composites so my eye totally believes them. Keep up the good work.

Hey Thanks. Yes, i need to spend some time on the chroma keying and removing the clouds from the guys pants. But your right I should perspective those clouds - thanks good tip. I suppose i could edit/smooth out some of the dolly cuts a little too. Yes, it's a slow country song and hence the slow pace and i realize its not everyone's cup of tea. (The first 1/3 might be a little too slow i know) - but i was mainly going for gaining music video production experience and the dolly moving background experiment. For the one with the "video-ish" look comment - a little articulation would be constructive.
