Well I finally got around to doing a video with my DVX. I am really pleased with the quality of the camera and eager to start the next one. Thanks for all the good advice so far and please let me know what you think. This is a straight performance video no storyline all done in a couple of hours.
Thanks....D....

pretty good for a first time and short shoot...

just want to say though, next time, try not to stay in one location. It's your first video and all...
but one-location performance-oriented videos get boring (unless something unique or crazy is going on).

can only get better with practice (goes for me too)

Thanks for the comments.

RealityMS - It is the 100a, I was sold on the camera before I found this site and now I come here to much :)

LloydC - Thanks for the straight answer, do you have any examples of multiple location performance videos I could check out? Everything I see is usually a single location.

Thanks again.

np..
I'm not against single locations, just that if it is a single location, it should be a unique one, or crazy things happening in that location. Look at Can't Stop by RHCP... all one location basically (same look throughout), but it's very unique and fun to watch.

Your video just consisted of shaky close up/medium shots of the performance in one location, and that can get old really quickly... change things to spice'n things up.

A narrative is an easy way to keep things fresh throughout

Put some creativity behind those shots and give us some kind of story. Good job for 1st time.

I love the opening shot with the eye and I also like the way you "crushed" the blacks.

As others have said, the actual video is too reptitive though.

Thanks again to all that replied. The band is a huge Darren Doane fan and this is why you see what you see. I am not comparing my work to Doane's at all (just for clarification) just trying to pull some of his style :)

The main drive behind this video was a quick lesson in "what is to come" for the band and myself. I though it would be a good idea to do something small and quick for the band and start a working relationship with them for the future.

I have another shoot to do with this band and we will see what kind of budget we will have to work with.

Thanks again!

I liked the way you gave two options for viewing, windows and quicktime. Often I cannot view films that have been posted here, I guess because it's in a form my PC can't read. I like the opening shot with the eye, very creative.
I've got a trailer I want to post and wonder if you could tell me how you posted your windows media player version.
thanks

The look was pretty damn cool, but like others have said, it was a bit blah after a while.

Looking foward to whatever you shoot with them next.
