Hey everyone this is my first music video to direct. Meaning ANY type of feedback would be appreciated. Was shot HVX/M2/Nikon lenses and in SD. The group is a Hardcore/Thrash band with a unique pace so it took some time and adjusting to get used to. Thanks for your time -ethan

Why did you shoot in SD? I thought the whole point of using the HVX, especially with the M2 and the Nikon lenses was to get a more cinematic look, which you can on HD. Anyway, I thought it was a good effort, but my first reaction was that this looked like it was shot on a DVX SD camera (Actually, my first reaction was to turn the volume off, as I can't stand this type of "music")

one ,two,three.... everybody solo!!!!! singer should be sponsered by halls menthaliptus. some good images there. just never goes any where, kinda like the song.

Haha thanks for the, Umm.... Feedback? Everyone on this site knows if your not going to shoot HD that means you cant afford it! At least i thought everyone knew that.. Oh and yea you can create "Cinematic" images on a DVX, despite what your high school video teacher might have taught you. When I think feedback, lighting, camera movement, and overall composition come to mind. Not your opinion on a song. When did this FILM forum go wrong. Haha, Ya guys are killin' me!!

Excellent job man. Colors are very beautiful. You def. captured the bands energy and performance. Great video, and nice touches with the AE!

Looks good to me.

Only things I would have changed, and this might be personal taste, is there should have been more b roll footage. At least a little more than the static TV. You know, hardcore stuff like scene girls in bloody bathtubs, that kind of stuff. The camera shake was good, but might have been a little too much. The camera has to not shake at some point for the shaking to seem extreme (know what i mean?)

When you say ANY type of feedback you kinda open up yourself the responses you initially got. There were some interesting things done in the video and some of them I thought worked. The camera work and lighting fit the video well, the creativity of the shots could have been pushed much further. The after effects elements work nicely and give it an element desperately needed. The "vignette" look has become standard for 35 adapter users and I think this is just a sign of lazyness or a bad accident. Overall though I think it was a solid first effort.

I thought it had a great look, with a nice cold hue and an organic use of on-screen text and superimpositions. I do agree that it would have worked better with more B-roll than just the television, but live and learn. The shaky camera work seemed a lot more accomplished than just a basic handheld. Care to share how you shot it and the color correction you did in post? Thanks for sharing.

Thank you all very much for your detailed feedback. Originally The TV segments were to follow a plot but that didn't pull through the way i had hoped and had to fall back on band performance, which could fall under the category of "Cliche" if you will. I chose vignette to create a focus point. Almost as looking down a dark hallway with a broken flashlight. All CC was done through MB and further adjusted with levels. A lot of motion tracking was done for all TV segments and animation was parented to the tracking points. Performance animation on the other hand was done frame by frame. Again, thanks for the compliments and feedback.
