First Layer in the Pelican Case?

I just got a 1550 pelican case for my DVX. After some extensive searching around here and the internet I haven't found the answer to my question.

When picking and plucking is it best to have my camera laying on the thing bottom layer? I am hesitant to do that because it's no more than an inch thick, and I'm wondering about padding, but there's also no way to cut the bottom layer in half.

For those of you who have a pelican case, do you lay your equipment on the bottom, "unpickable" layer?

Also if anyone has any layouts they would be greatly appreciated. The one posted in an earlier forum is not available anymore.

I've never had any prob with my pelican case or my camera when it is in it. There is a layer of padding on the lid and one on the bottom of the case that keep it in place. Both will touch your DVX unless you bought one of the really thick cases (I don't recall the size you referenced). All the pick-n-pluck foam is in the middle and should keep it from running around in there when the lid is shut. As far as layout goes, follow the instructions that come with the case. Then you can do a custom layout to fit as much of your equipment in there as possible giving the constraints of the instructions.

I have my DVX sitting in my pelicna 1510 all the way to the thin bottom layer. I made myself an extra layer from the foam that I picked and plugged out, so the DVX sits on two thin layers. I figured with the wheels on the bottom of the case, there is no way it is going to bend. The case itself, especially on the bottom is strong. And since I will still treat the case carefully, I am convinced I wont have anything to worry about... my DVX should be safe in there.

I just really wanted my DVX sit upright in the case, plus I ended up with more space, so now my letus extreme will fit in there as well.

i ended up cutting half of the bottom layer out, and i think it worked out well. it's laying on its left side.
