I wish they left out the DSLR's for once and just left it to actual professional cameras. Damn you Zacuto!

I'm glad the dslrs are included. It can possibly cut down on a lot of the which cam should I choose threads.

And this is somehow different than most videos that end up on youtube?

Yes. Most videos are trying to communicate a feeling, or message, a story.

Zacutos marketing really annoys me, it's like their marketing 20" wheels to teenagers. Don't get me started on the models in short shorts holding ridiculously built cameras.

They tested every large single chip camera they could get (within limits; I mean, the 7D represented all the APS-C-sized Canons, the 1D represented the APS-H, etc). So the DSLRs were included. After the results were tabulated, I doubt we'll see the DSLRs included in any future comparisons against the Alexa or Red or F3 or other. But they had to do it at least once, to get an absolute representation and a solid benchmark.

Hopefully with 140 guys double checking each other it will be informative results, but I KNOW some people are going to snivel anyway. (Of course those are the people that have never done a comparison test.) :kali:

There is a comment on the site that it was delayed until tomorrow.

To be fair, RED decided not to have the EPIC made available for the test as they considered the camera to still be in Beta development and that it would be unfair to judge the camera in that state. A RED One MX was used and when asked, Jim Jannard himself gave suggestions on their forum as to what post processing he felt would give the best results for the camera. That sounds pretty reasonable from both sides of the fence.

I have my issues with a number of aspects of the tests and there are certain suppositions made in it that I very much disagree with. But it is impossible to make a completely accurate test of such wildly divergent technologies, so there will always be complaints. On the whole I feel it gives a generally accurate view of the relative merits of the different cameras, but I quibble about almost all of the specific benchmarks. I'm a pretty vocal guy, so I have a feeling at least a few of my comments made it into the final Zacuto documentary.

Love watching these. Only cameras that would be personally interesting to see included would have been the AF100 or a GH2.

Mitch, you always try to post reasonable responses to specific issues. I never had a problem with that. Oh, and Red was asked about the Epic again after the release and they said NO a second time. That's their problem. [(cluck, cluck, cluck...) in the background] Shoot, two of the shootouts with the F3 were in were with prototype F3s.

My quibble is with people that complain that all such tests are useless because they are imperfect. Since the tests are conceived and executed by imperfect human beings the tests are inherently imperfect.

Just because the tests do not live up to god-like perfection doesn't mean they are useless. Merely that they need to be analyzed carefully.

We know the F3 will moire at high frequencies, but those frequencies are rarely encountered in real life. Certainly not like my DSLR.

We know the F3 isn't quite up to EX1/3 resolution, but then its not 3 full raster chips either. And neither is the F35, Alexa and several other very fine cameras.

Its also highly unlikely that they tested an F3 with an external recorder to see its true potential.

Therefore, my expectation is that they will down grade the F3 in comparison to the others, but I will realize that they didn't tap the full potential of the camera in those circumstances.

Hey, my F3 just arrived! Yippie! Damn, I don't have a Nikon adapter yet.

If you think that, then you don't understand the purpose of the SCCE.

They make ZERO judgement calls or rankings in their test.

They put the cameras to the test, and posted the results. The only "ratings" are coming from those of us who watched it. The SCCE did not make any manner of subjective rankings. They used the best people they could get, in the most controlled circumstances they could put together, using the same lens on all cameras... and then let the results speak for themselves.

In that sense, perfect. In the sense that the codec and s-log will be the limiting factors we won't see the full capability of the camera... yet. It will still be interesting.
