first impressions GH2 vs GH1

hi guys,
got the Gh2 towards the end of this shoot, shot everything at 720/60p, at that setting, the footage looks pretty much the same, from both cameras. (GH1 was not hacked). My first impressions of the Gh2 during this shoot: The high resolution viewfinder is a dream to use, the higher refresh rate is also very nice, af is a lot faster, being able to connect an external monitor and using it during recording is also great! Overall, its a big improvement over its predecessor. The control button layout changed which made it frustrating going back and forth between the two cams, and the batteries are not compatible. Another thing I noticed, the white balance presets on the GH2 are totally off, I am going to wait on the final verdict on that until I receive my second GH2, but it looks like Panasonic tuned the wb towards brown/yellow. The AWB works fine and everything is as it should be using K settings (2.5k -10k), but forget the daylight, cloudy, shade and tungsten presets, they are way off.
cheers,
Mike

Looks good. I've only had mine for two days, but I think the GH2 is handling skin tones better. On my (unhacked) GH1, I would occasionally get an unnatural blue color on skin in the area where highlight crosses into shadows. Really ugly. But I haven't noticed that on the GH2, and in fact it's blowing me away. I also just got the Lumix 20mm f1.7, so I can't be sure what to credit for this...the new camera or the lens.

thanks dvbrother, had no problems w skin tones, congrats on the 20mm, on of my fav's and you can really notice the af speed improvement on the GH2 w this lens!

So this Video is shot on GH1? Or GH2?
May i ask which Lenses you use in general?
Panasonic original or other ones?

Greetings

@dark, shot with both cams, my main lens at the moment, the Voigtlander Nokton 25mm, absolutely love that lens, also use the 20mm 1.7, 14 140mm and 7-14mm a lot. I have an adapter to use my Canon lenses mostly to use the 50mm 1.2, really nice for shallow dof portraits.

Mike,

Let me hijack the thread just for a second. You say you have a Canon 50mm f1.2. So do I. Does yours have a soft image overall? Do you get any chromatic aberration around contrasty edges? Mine exhibits these issues. Itwas the first lens I bought when I got my GH1, and it was before I knew what to look for. I'm pretty sure the one I got has haze or fungus inside.

OK, hijack concluded.

The inconsistent white-balance is the only technical problem that stood out for me. I consider the AWB setting of the GH1 unreliable and never use it myself. I'd be interested to know if anyone has done any tests comparing the manual white-balance settings of the GH2 with those of the GH1?

Great video otherwise, marred only by the tragic miniskirt with galoshes shot.
