First heavy project that is clunking.... Freaky T music vid

Blackout

Wellp, I just got done with a 16 hour shoot that pushed two GH1.3s to the max. Mostly all kit and 1.7 20mm pancake lens, I went the gamut from outdoors bright sunlight to indoors very high iso "club" lighting and effects with smoke & mirrors (literally).

The inside low light club shots REALLY pushed the codec. I have about 90 differnt colored light beams and smoke particles and jewlery sparkles and all sorts of crazy tiny motion and light change going on.

This is the first project that is REALLY clunking up in vegas 9e.... I don't know if it is because of the detail... the bitrate.. or what.. but I am considering ditching how far I edited (about 1/4th of the music video, and doing a cineform transfer to get some smoothness.

Here are some stills:

So.... a few questions.... if I want to start over again (I am editing in vegas pro 9e) is there anyway to conform over to cineform and retain the edit or do I ave to start from scratch?

#2... this video is ALL style over substance.... I need some more interesting & odd glow / sparkle effects and transitions as it goes back and forth from black and white to insane color in a dream sequence. I know a lot of people do interesting things with masks but I am not sure how. Most of this look was achieved on set with actual lighting and smoke and filters.

#3 I need to do a "line type in over screen with sfx" sort of effect.. such is:

NEW YORK CITY
PRESENT DAY

then
BROOKLYN

then BLAHBLAH STUDIOS

Is there an easy way in sony vegas to do this effect? I can't seem to find it and don't want to have to make a seprate file / key for each letter.

Thanks..

I recently upgraded to After Effects CS5 and expected little more than a performance improvement. Then I tried AE's new RotoBrush feature and watched in awe as it turned my post-production workflow inside out. For post hoc masking of footage shot with no background screening at all, RotoBrush is an indispensable tool and well worth the price of the upgrade. Premiere is another story if you like Vegas, but After Effects really shimmers on its own terms. Here's a link to a good RotoBrush intro video:

i can't really comment on Vegas as i'm a mac FCP and CS5 user, but as far as adding bling i seriously recommend you get Optical Flares (by video copilot) for after effects as its so good at adding really sexy realistic and wildly abstract lens flares that would be sure to bling up your music video no end..

Hmmm interesting I'll look into that thanks guys. Still any recomendations on how to do the simple text key effect of
computer like text keying in from left to right as if it was coming in typed or say at about 300 baud.....

you know the B first then R O O K L Y N _ (even with a blinking cursor or something..) other than the horrible obvious way of making a track for each letter
on the timeline.... there's gotta be an easier way....

Yeah, there is. I did something like that a couple of years ago but I've gotta find it to remember how. Looking...

Hahaha... that should do it for me.. gotta love the smarmy 12 year old. Although I want it to go left to right not center itself as it types... but I'll toy around with it. Thanks!
