First grabs

I shot some horrible video Saturday. I took some club members fishing and I had the DVX in letterbox mode and poor shutter & iris settings. It was too cold to keep the DVX out of the bag very long(my excuse). So I went out today and attempted redemption. I began to actually understand how to get the proper exposure.(I think)
All of the grabs are on the front page of our Club website. They are thumbnailed. I hope this fixes it.

Well I hope I fixed it. I just posted the link straight to the club page. It may be because my server doesn't allow it. Anyway all the grabs from both days are posted on the front page thumbnailed. I shot a lot of video Sunday from my pickup driving down the roads in the area. I tried every scene setting and adjusted shutter and iris as needed to keep the bright areas from blowing up. I'm not sure how to post video to the web in Quicktime or Windows Media. I will get around to it this week. I must say there is no substitute for using the camcorder. I read the manual and the DVX book(well I thumbed thru them) and I learned more today just by using the DVX.

Working now....The pictures all have a cool BLUE tint to them.

These are the pics right?

They work for me, I'm really liking the nice blue tint. Besides the stretching because of whatever, I personally think those are some good grabs.

EDIT: Oops I started typing this while looking at them before reservoir posted, those 3 he posted are my favourites.

Yeah, you can't use HTML. Put your link between [ IMG ] and [ /IMG ] (just don't leave a space between the "[" and the "I" etc

No worries, I'm not sure if it was on this forum but I originally tried to use HTML code to post an image too. I'm sure alot of people have made that mistake

The pics look like you forgot to white balance. It looks like the camera was set for 32K (tungsten) instead of 56k (daylight). That would definitely cause the "cool BLUE tint". Hopefully that was the look you were going for.

I wish it was but it was my first time outside with the DVX and I was afraid of damaging it in the cold and didn't white balance or anything. I didnt' handle the Zebras well or anything else for that matter. Sunday I felt as if I began to understand how the DVX works. I have a long way to go but at least I've made the first couple of steps. I can find the shutter and iris controls quickly and actually shot some video that was viewable. Thanks for posting.

They look nice.

I personally think the blue is overdone, I wouldn't do it. I also think that your framings, although formally correct, tend to much for the centered framing, wich can work sometimes (Such as in the boat full shot), but sometimes just take whatever dynamic theese images might have. I think you could also benefit from getting closer, as many of the shots you posted, would look more interested in closer framing.

Theese are much from personal experience, but still that's how I feel. Try to have your camera in warmer places, so you can show us more!

Cheers

Thanks for the posts everyone I will try to do better. I am already more familiar with the settings. I will definately try for a warmer look even if the weather doesn't cooperate. (I'm having fun learning anyway).

were you white balanced for indoor lighting? They all look really blue.

EDIT oops didnt' see page two.

I didn't white balance at all. It was very cool out and I would just grab the cam and push record for a minute and live with it. I wish I was trying for that look but I wasn't . It was blue in the LCD as well when I was shooting it so the cam was try to tell my dumb#$% that I should do something but I didn't. I learned from it(I hope). Thanks for the input.
