First gig - what setting?

This might be a silly question?

My first gig is coming up with my new DVX - a training video for the school system. I'm now faced with the decision of shooting 60i or 24p. I'll be shooting classroom sessions as well as interviews, pretty straight forward, not a lot of "action". I love the look of 24p but for some unclear reason I'm almost scared to use it on this project. Maybe it's the newness of it all? Allthough I feel comfortable with the camera I'm still nervous about committing to 24p on a paying gig.

I considered giving the option to the client but then I don't know if I want to get into a big tech-talk with them about it. Any suggestions from you DVX vets?

Thanks a lot.

There is not going to be alot of fast motion. Check your lighting conditions. And go for it. I never even mention 24p to my clients. I just shoot it. They always come back saying, "I don't know what it is but your videos always look better than X company."

Go with 24p if you really want that finished pro "cinematic look" to your project. If you want the news look go for 60i. And don't rule out 30p for the super crisp documentary look. Think of those settings as spices. 60i=no spice 30p=a touch of salt 24p=the whole spice rack

24p=mad flavor mmmmm, good!

In my opinoin, Shoot 24p and never look back. Practice using it before your shoot. Remember to slow down your pans or track a subject when to pan for a fast pan. Keep your movements slow and you will hit a home run with 24p.

But then again it is all up to your taste, you might not like spice! :)

That's a great way to put it! I deal with a lot of clients at a medium budget level. Any project I work on usually involves pre-production meetings with the client and/or ad agency. Typically for commercials I shoot 24p. I find, in my situation, that you let the client make the choice...we show them samples of spots/videos in 60i/24p. I have worked on a number of industrial videos with the DVX..for these I shoot standard video. 24p just doesn't "feel" right on these type of projects...the dramatic look just adds something that doesn't look right.

One note: The previous post said:"for the news look go 60i"...to quote myself....."it's all in the lighting".
