First footage from the RED DRAGON released

What an amazing sensor! They even kept HDR-x for when you need 21+ stops. lol. Wish I could justify the cost. I'd definitely go with Scarlet Dragon. Ready to shoot package would be around $25,000 (minimal shooting). Hopefully one day. :D

What does that come out to in terms of data rate?

16-bit RAW at 6144x3160 takes 37 MB per frame, so 889 MB/s if you record it uncompressed at 24 fps (B means bytes, in bits it would be 7110 Mbps). With 17:1 compression it goes down to 52 MB/s, so, lower than what the 5D3+RAW needs (84 MB/s), and less than half the bitrate of the original BMC (120 MB/s).

And all of which is amazing. 6k at 17:1 with 16 stops DR, higher ISO performance and looking that great. Then you look at the price. People that are picking on Dragon while understanding those specs really really need to go take a nap or just admit they KNOW their camera is inferior. Stop trying to justify and just appreciate.

Wow! That's incredible. You could potentially record that to an SD card.

If you know how to work with raw, Red has great color. This I have seen with my own eyes. I don't care what "prevailing industry opinion" is. Remember when "prevailing industry opinion" was that a $250k 1080p Sony was still a better investment than the scary and different new $17.5k Red One? Do you know what percentage of the US population doesn't believe in macroevolution? A person can be smart, but "people" are always dumb. The bigger the group the dumber.

Wow, you're a real chipper lad. We're dumb no matter how smart we are? And the more of us the worse it is. Awesome....

I have to agree with Lee. As a rule crowds are always less intelligent than their individual IQs would suggest ....smart people forget to think. Look at how people behave in traffic, shopping malls before Christmas, big events, and busy stores/places.
lol ;)

I think the saying was "you are never smarter than you were at 21 and each year you know less"

PS...were not going to really know how good the chip is until it starts shipping and the pros get their hands on it.....until then, it's just "cocktail conversation"

Well...yeah. Ever heard of mob mentality? Or the bandwagon effect? People are influenced by their peers towards certain decisions like purchases, behaviours, trends. There has been a lot of study to it. As more people come to believe something, others hop on board, regardless of evidence. It's actually astounding how much others pressure us in groups.

I agree. It would be great to see a unbiased side by side comparison of the Dragon vs C300/F5/F55 in low light like ISO 16000/20000.

Am I the only one more impressed by Mark's test video than the actual sensor? Don't get me wrong, the range is impressive as hell, but for a test video, it was really watchable and well cut!
