First film? Oh, my.

Now, I've never had a video camera... but I've had my fair share of experience with video cameras, everything from filming a graduation to my school's morning show. Now that I'm applying to an art school, they have a portfolio requirement.

Pretty much, I have nothing to show since all my stuff is somewhere in the school and has been probably taped over, add to that the fact that I have no camera.

Yet, in English class, I made a film.

Using machinima, I remade Hamlet, all by myself... even having to resort to text-to-speech programs for spoken dialouge. (The credits were given to another dude since he's my best friend and really needed a grade boost.)

Now my question.

Is this good enough to submit to the school or should I just find a way to get a camera and film the short film I've always wanted to film?

Hi,

I apologize for not having watched the whole film, I've been and am busy working on some things, but from what I saw, I think, the film looks nice and the idea of a modern Hamlet can be appealing. The voices might sound too mechanical to some. But if nothing is really riding on this (like if it won't decide if you go to the school or not, if it won't be for a grade, etc.) you might want to submit it as a sign of your creativity and hard work. And again, some things do seem nice to me about it as it is.

But if you can get a camera and the things you need to shoot the short film of your dreams, that might be good too.

Finally, you might be interested in checking out some free voice sounds here: http://www.pacdv.com/sounds/voices-1.html . Maybe you'll find some things even if not for this, maybe for future projects.
