First edit with CS4 Premier

Hey guys,

I'm working on my first video and I am looking to export it to highest possible DVD quality format.

I recorded the footage with 1080/60 on my hmc150, than I switched the avchd file to dvcpro. Once I was done with the editing, I exported through premier pro using mpeg2 ntsc dv high quality preset which is set at right below 30fps. The video came out weird and its glitch. The problem is I do not see an option for 60fps, what do I need to do for best DVD quality format output???

Thanks

You can use Dynamic Link to send the Premiere timeline straight to Encore.

1080/60 (1080i) is 29.97 fps. It's interlaced, so my question is are you exporting it as interlaced or progressive? Also, what was the DVCPro settings you were using?

Also, if you are using the free AVCHD>DVCProHD transcoder that Panasonic provides, there is an option for 1080i to be transcoded to DV, which may help.

DVD does not support 60fps, but does support 29.97 (as said above).

Don't be too upset when you see the nice HD footage transcoded in to SD for DVD. After HD - SD looks terrible!

So let's do it from the beginning.

My work flow is as follows.

Record it using my HMC150 and transcode avchd to DVCPRO and edit it with CS4.

For the best quality result with smoothest workflow. Which setup should I shoot with???

720 or 1080???

24 or 30 or 60???

Thanks for all your help.

I exported it wrong to begin with, I just exported it with 1080 29.97 and it came out much better.

I used 1080/60 setting for dvcpro when editing in cs4.

Just a word. I don't know about CS4, but CS3's down sampling stinks. It tends to make the picture all fuzzy, possibly losing some resolution. I recommend using VirtualDub's Lanczos algorithm to down sample. I can see a very noticeable difference between the two. As long as Adobe doesn't have to use its resizing math, it does fine. So export at full size from Premiere, and then down sample in VirtualDub.
