First DVX Shoot This Weekend. Questions???

Hi All,

The nice folks at Panasonic were nice enough to lay a DVX100 on me for a couple of weeks to demo, whooha!!!

I'm going to do a test shoot this weekend with a band and just want to make sure the settings I have in mind are correct, if I could get some feedback from you all that would be awesome!

Because I'm editing with Final Cut Pro HD I'm able to capture 24p Advance correct? So if I shoot on F6 I'll be able to get the best quality footage?

We're going to be shooting in an all black room with no windows using a small light source fixed to the camera to give the illusion of someone walking through the room as the band plays with a flashlight. Any tips on setting up the camera under those lighting conditions so that we get the best picture?

Finally, once we're done editing I'll need to output to Beta for broadcast. Any tips on doing this, and does anyone know of any facilities in Southern Ontario Canada that can do the conversion at a reasonable rate? Surprisingly enough the one thing we don't have in the college here is a beta deck?!?!??!

Thanks in advance folks!

Cheers,

Ryan

I always shoot at 24pA. Less footage to deal with and takes up less space. Shooting your desired look is actually going to be harder than it sounds. The problems with DV or any digital medium, is blow-outs. Unlike film, there's not much latitude on DV. With bright flashlights in a dark room, I suspect it going to be hard to control. Shooting in 24 generally requires more light than shooting in interlace mode. Make sure you have ND and Diffuse gels to knok back the intensity. Don't forget to White Balance.

As for transfering the footage to Beta, I'm not to sure where to do that. Perhaps a local news station could point you in the right direction.

Hope that help. Good luck.

Bob

Thanks for the help, I feel better now.

I also just got Barry's book so I think I'm definitely on the right track now. ;-)
