Recently I took part in the 2011 Digi60 Film Festival in Ottawa, Canada. The Digi60 festival is a catch based festival not unlike the DVXuser Fests. For 2011 the catch was that there had to be a passionate kiss in the film that changed the character(s). I submitted two films to the festival and would like to share them with the community to get feedback and show some of process that we went through with each film. I was fortunate enough to win the "Spirit of the Festival" award at the festival. Below are the posters for the 2 shorts I made: "First Date" and "Divorce" (they are not related to each other, although many have thought from the title that they were).

ok, for "First Date": I was confuses if I was looking at a serials of musicvideoclips or a short.

Tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much music, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much.

Music should be "in" the film and not "a layer up on it". Mixed with ambience sounds, Foley sounds (sounds of moving, clothes, footsteps...)

Even if someone you know has spend hours and hours and only slept 1 hour in 10 days to compose music/score... You should have the "guts" (or how do you say that ?) to say
"I'm not going to use it".

Thanks for your comment dre83.
Music plays an important part in all my short films and "First Date" was planned as a sort of mix of montage and "mumblecore". Originally the film was 18 minutes long but due to the time limit of 8 minutes for the Digi60 Film Festival I had to cut it down. The extras that are above ("Americano" and "Nerd") were originally part of the film but were cut due to length.
Thank you for taking the time to watch the film and give your feedback. It's very much appreciated.

I forgot some other comments, which are more positif :-p

The framing and editing is nice. I can see the "connection" between the girl preparing for her date and the guy in the car driving to her.

The other girl is happy for the girl who's dating (well, her face looks happy...I hope it's not a "I'm going to kill you" smile ? :-p)

7:46

I would have liked it to hear more sounds like the car arriving, sound of clothes moving at the beginning when preparing, sound of car driving.

If you put no sound on car = not important, if you put sound on a car = important. In some films (movies) they sometimes put a small sound of the object (a car, bycicle, wheelchair) if it's important.
The viewer will not "hear" it and say "hey, I hear the sound of that bycicle", but it will come out more when that bycicle later on will be important. For example the bycicle that drives against a gasoline station
and the gasoline station explodes (booooom).

The guy is wearing a wireless mic ?

@02:01, mic at the right corner, about 0,60 inch under the top. Boomwhise it would have been better if the boomguy was 1 feet higher (standing on something) and then the boom longer out, so the boom is still
out of frame but hanging above the talents.

But don't worry about the mic in frame, it's easy to cut it out (picture in picture or so it's called in editing software, or mat paint or so...) And I'm surry I'm the only one who saw it.. Well except for now when I post this everyone will see it because they read it and pay attention to it now.. So...actually now I've ruined it :-p

We didn't use wireless on any of the shots and you may notice that the boom is gone ;)
Again, thanks for watching and commenting.
