GH5 First Commercial with GH5

I'm not in the business, but that seems really inexpensive for work of that quality.

After 28 years in the business, I have come to conclusion that pricing is somewhat subjective. Many factors help to determine pricing. Market, skills, and customer's satisfaction are among the major factors. I personally think that, if the market that he is in allowed him to charge that price, it is certainly reasonable. Keep in mind, there is a great deal of time, skills, equipment and effort put into most productions.

Well, I appreciate that. This is a small restaurant with only three locations, so their budget wasn't enormous. In my experience, it's really hard to sell small businesses on a 30 second commercial for more than 2K. So I opted for $2K since that is essentially equal to my day rate for two days worth of work. That being said, another goal of this particular project was to create something that I could use as a demo for larger-scale companies that would be willing to spend more. I love shooting food and creating commercials and I had fun on the project. It's all relative :)

Thanks for posting. Nice job. I share the same attitude. If you are working with smaller scale entities, then it is important to be flexible on price, or you will not be working with small scale entities!

This is indeed a great marketing strategy, which many of us use in the industry.

Hi Rob.
Thank you for the kind words.
Personally, I feel the GH5 is the best all-around camera I have ever used. I deliberately pushed back this project for my GH5 arrival so that I could utilize 180fps and the 4K color space for grading since this was a food commercial. I used a lot of my native lenses, but mostly the Panny 35-100 for the food "drop" shots, the Leica 42.5 for grill and food prep, and the Olympus 75mm for crowd shots.

In my experience, you can't beat all the combinations this camera offers. For me, the GH5 is the sum of it's parts for an enormous value.
This was shot in Cinema D with all settings reduced to zero except hue. I would have used VLOG, but was also shooting with a GH4 on the Ronin for some establishing shots that didn't have VLOG, so I wanted to match settings for coloring as much as possible.

I might be using it again for a chocolate commercial very soon. Fingers crossed!

Yes great job! I also find having to be flexible with small businesses, because their budgets just aren't there and often are trying to do everything themselves so making the best use of the video isn't always something they understand...so try to help them with that...if its successful for them...they'll be back for more.
