First Commercial with DVX-100A

Here are some screen grabs from the first commercial I'm producing with the DVX-100A. So far I love this camera.

I'll post the entire spot once it's finished.

UPDATE: Short clip of beginning of commercial:

Hey, not sure if this is a dumb question, but did you do the wide screen in post. It looks like 1:85:1??? did you use an adapter? Looks great, nice clarity.

Yeah the letterboxing was done in post. The CC was done with Magic Bullet Editors - Buffalo. We're laying the voiceover next week.

Not only are these my first shots with the DVX-100, it's my first commercial ever. And this is my first post ever, so I guess it's a good time for many "firsts." Thanks for the feedback so far.

Odd, normally I like the clips over the video.

In the instance I thought the clips were fantatsic, but the clip was sort of ho hum.

Any advice?
Here are some specifics:

The zoom in on the horse is a bit jerky.

I like the lights flashing.

Perhaps it is just the compression but the racing shots look very pixelated (they looked extremely crisp in the grabs).

The text appearing over plain green is a bit bland.

The crowd shot is not very emotional, it just appears to be people milling about. No one looks excited.

The buffet shots are not particularly appetizing and the camera is a little too shaky.

Cool. Thanks for the tips. I used different CC on the food shots but I think you're right, it's too washed out. I also applied SteadyCam Pro to those shots but I think they'll just need to be redone.

I'll also try to do something with the text to make it a bit more interesting.

Unfortunately with the crowd, they weren't too excited. :( The band kinda sucked.

I agree with Editor 321. We're so exposed to the "shaky camera" that it's a very accepted (and desired) esthetic now. It doesn't throw me off at all. In fact, it adds a certain "energY' because you feel like you're moving along through the space. I would love to see more horse and less crowd I suppose, because the horse stuff looks so good. The graphics look like what I'd expect for the venue. I'm imagining they can't look too "groovy" or you won't appeal to your target audience. And lastly, I associate the green font with money...and I assume it's a betting track you're advertising? If so, that's a very good call.

I also liked the light flashes, but I think you need to have shots of people cheering the race on with betting slips in their hands or something. I would X the band and show some betting! Good choice of music is it royalty free? Where did you get it?
