First C300 Footage

This seemed worth separating from the main Canon announcement thread.

You can watch Vincent Laforet's short film 'Mobius' shot on the C300 here:

Quite frankly, the image looks superb. And seems to handle what must have been a very contrasty daylight extremely well. What do people think?

Where is the link? And if Canon wants to sell any, they need to cut $10,000 of the price tag, with the 4K S35 Scarlet costing $9800. Canon lost big time today. I'm sure it is a great camera but the cost is disgusting for what you get.

DR looks to be very very good. the 20k price though with Scarlet x @ about 14k with all the trimmings? on paper the c300 seems pricey now to me. out of my price range anyway but curious to see this new concept dslr "Cinema" camera that im seeing many photos of but no info on when and how much it will be. hopefully cheaper than all this other stuff thats just popped up.

My, what short memories we all have!

And Scarlet is going to be about $13k at a minimum before anyone can actually shoot with it, so the sub-$10k price tag is a bit deceptive.

I think the most interesting question now, is what price point Canon are going to release their 4k Cinema-DSLR for. If that comes out for $2.5-5k (i.e. at an established DSLR price point) then that's going to change things yet again.

The funny thing is Canon rates the C300's DR at only 12 stops with Canon log.

It is strange, I certainly would have guessed more than that from the footage I've seen so far - it looks pretty comparable to SLOGged F3.

It's possible that Canon are a bit more conservative in their reading of stops (I know certain manufacturers claim stops in tests that would never really be acceptable in actual footage).

No it won't! $13,000? Try more like reaching $21,450 "to be able to shoot with it". Try adding some of the things you need to "Record". SSD's for starters. Add that. Are you gonna mount PL glass? Add that. K you're shooting now. How ya gonna edit? Add red rocket maybe? Add that. Workaround graphic cards instead of Red Rocket? OK, ADD that! Alright, you can edit 4k now. How ya gonna view it? ADD THAT (look up the price of 4k monitors!!!!).

ANYBODY that thinks they are going to have a Scarlet and actually shoot, edit, and VIEW it 4k is looking at spending a fortune. Not for $9,800 or even $13,000. You can buy a nice Porsche before you're going full 4k shooting, editing, and viewing....

No $14,015 is all you need assuming you already have your Canon lenses. It comes with a ssd card and a reg mag to unload the footage, batteries and an LCD. That's all that's needed to start shooting. But that Canon footage looks really good. Too bad it's 16k.

This is exactly the same thing that happened with the RED ONE - remember !! They sold a brain with a crappy lens for $17,500 - but that was just the start - i know - we ordered one

Read my post a little closer. OK, so go shoot your footage with your $14,105 camera at 4K res. Now that you have it on your 64gb SSD, just how many minutes does that hold?. Now what are you going to do with it? Play it back on the scarlet for everyone to gather around? Get real. Shooting vrs. producing the footage for view is what you need to consider. Go ahead and buy your $14,015 camera and NOT A SINGLE THING ELSE and try filming for a year, much less a week. LOL! (Oh yeah, I'll enjoy it in 1080p because I don't have a 4k monitor, TV, or projector. I'm guessing about 99% of the people here don't OWN a 4k view system either).

I'm laughing at people who think that RED won today. People that ARE ALREADY SHOOTING RED with a RED workflow won, they got their B cams for Epic. But the guy that does not own a single RED item? Go ahead, jump in with your $14,015. LOL! 4K with EOS L glass! LOL harder!
