First architectural video..How would you say this looks?

So i have just recently done a short film as a favour for an interior designer I know. He just finished his latest masterpiece and wanted to document it.
Don't have much experience in this field and would like some opinions.

Feedback appreciated :)

All shot on 5dmk3 and 24-105.

*ps: Yeah, i know some of the dolly moves aren't perfectly smooth. Not the easiest thing to push a dolly, pan and pull focus at the same time.

I like the presentation and structure of the video, it works.

I don't like the color grade or colors. The gloomy hazy feel makes it look depressed, also the white balance being off makes it just look dirty.
My opinion is when you do artistic pieces you either go all the way left or all the right.

I would remove the color grade as it makes it look sad and I would white balance each scene. Muddy yellows in doors just makes it look old.
I like the pacing and camera movement, Flying shots looked great.

Bad aliasing on the Air Conditioner grill, but I don't think Any camera moving like that could do better. Overall I liked it, minus the color grade and correction.

Thanks for the feedback.

The grading was actually intedned to give a yellow/gold-ish look to dramatize the grand nature of the building design. Not sure if it's entirely suitable, though ;)
The grill actually looked fine off the card. I think vimeo compression might have something to do with it.

The moving shots weren't actually glidecam flies. They were shot with a tripod with dolly wheels attached :)

Appreciate the feedback, though. Any other opinions would be greatly appreciated. I guess I need to brush up my colour grading skills a little..not exactly my strong suit :)

Thanks for sharing. I like it. The MKIII really has better color than the MKII. Good color and gamma really help with percieved sharpness as well. The video is nice and crisp and I did not have an issue with the grading. The tripod movement rally adds to the situation & goes well with the intensity of the music. I bet the designer is thrilled with the outcome. Shows that the 5DMKIII is not a pile of mush.

Nicely done. But....

I'd be concerned about the music. If your friend uses it in any way for work (to get a job, publicity, anything!) that could be a big problem. Using music for a hobby, maybe people look the other way. But use it for business without licensing it is asking for trouble.

Then again, I see you're in Singapore, so perhaps it is less of an issue..... Still, it's something to consider.

Thanks :) Yes, the mark3 is rather a bit sharper than people make it out to be. Most of the daylight shots were with cinestyle and grading to squeeze out more dynamic range. The night shots were with dialed down neutral (prolost flat).

Ah...well, the designer wanted the song and since i wasn't doing it for profit, I didn't think too much of it. oops. Shhh.... :) Anyway it isn't too much of promotion as the designer rarely does domestic houses. He specializes in offices. This was an exception as it was his own home he designed and he just wanted to show it off. :D So... yeah.

But yeah, I'll definitely be more cautious in future.

That makes me a bit dizzy. Too much movement, both linear and rotational - perhaps do fewer and slow it down some. The stills don't provide sufficient time to see what's being shown. Overall pretty nice though.

Hmm...perhaps I was a bit aggressive with the moves. Yeah, I agree. Some of the static shots weren't there quite long enough. I'll keep that in mind :) Thanks for the feedback.

I think it was very good, really liked it!
Yes, some of the moves were aggressive as you said, but I know how difficult it is to work with a dolly/dslr combination...
I think some of your shots could have been MUCH better with a wider lens...I mean thats the only thing missing in my opinion...
You have movement, you have details...but I d love to see some ultra wides!
Here is a similar project I made last summer https://vimeo.com/46637296 and the funny thing is that I was also trying to move with a dolly at the interior shots, but finally I skipped it and used just the tripod...
MKIII shines...! Much better than my 60D...

Thanks.
Yep, a wider lens would be handy. But the widest I had was a 24mm and I don't use Ultrawides enough to justify the canon 14mm (but i want it so much). Maybe I'll try the samyang 14mm.
Your video was really nice. The location and some of the shots were breathtaking :)

*ps, yes, dolly + dslr = nightmare to work with.
But the results are worth it, i think :D
