Did one of my good friend's weddings as a favour. Favour cuz when i set out to do this film thing i wasnt gonna do weddings. Having done this one...i'm really not gonna do them lol. 2 hectic for me. I thrive on rehearsed stuff ..not events...anyhoo. take a look.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oa9ukQ8ajsQ click HD!

Oh its 4:3 cuz i forgot to put it in squeeze. Bummer for me...but they dont give a rats behind about aspect ratio , so thats good.

Nice man.
Great color!
And not a single dissolve til the end... makin' a statement, eh? ;^)
Love the mirror rack focus and the ribbons at 1:40.
Ah... the classic 4:3 look, that's cool.

Hey, do you think the soft circle wipe at the end would work with a white background instead of black?
Just curious, because I too "Don't do weddings", though the economy may convince me otherwise, lol!

Hope it wasn't too stressful, looks good Darren!

Oh, and did you know that if you add &fmt=22 to the end of a Youtube URL, it will automatically play HD, and &fmt=18 will autoplay HQ?

Try it!

And I like "possibly" last wedding... a little flexibility there, right?

lol yeh there's some flexibility in there somewhere :). And now that u mention it i do think white wud work better at the end. I think the hard cuts went with the music more, hence the choice of not using it till the end when it got softer.

I didnt know about the fmt=22...i knew the HQ one though

Man that was stress though :) apart from having multiple angles i can see why people dont usually do this alone

thankx 4 watching fellaz.

Well, I wasn't saying you NEEDED dissolves or anything. ;^)

But as one who is often guilty of "over dissolving", I thought you might be, like I said, making a statement, that's all:
"I DON'T do weddings, and this trailer will get NO dissolves!!!" LOL!!!

That said, if there's any type of film that benefits from dissolves, it's weddings; a softer transition than cuts, and the way you can blend one image into another can be beautiful.

Yeah, for the end, maybe see what's the softest edge you can get on the white circle.

But don't make it TOO good, or people will start calling you for wedding vvideos!!! LOL!!!

yeh i kept the hard cuts in the start to go with the hard beat...and i like how it goes along in my head for the preparation...like goin into battle. Lol ..i know marriage is not quite like that (some may argue that point :D) but thats how i was cutting it for the start. then the dissolves are from the vows onward...making it softer ( the hard part is over type thing :D) and as u say it does link the images nicely.

I;ve already made up my mind that i shall be saying no to my other friends getting married in January if they ask lol. We'll see though its flexible :)

yow chuck i come to Florida at least once a year...it wud be good to link up. I know its a big place so u may not even be close to where i usually go (Miramar FL) but who knows. would be kool to link with another dvxuser.

Great job there, especially for someone that doesn't do weddings! It ain't easy shooting live stuff sometimes and it's the type of thing where you have to get creative fast.

thanks for the feedback. really appreciate it :) . Yes events are a beast IMO, there's no "oh we didnt get that....take 2!!" especially for a wedding...thats messing with people's memories. Its good to know how to do 'em though to be more rounded.

I'm 15 min from Miramar. Let me know!
Are you the only DVXer in Jamaica?

The only one i know of. I get kinda bummed when i see read the DVX fests cuz u guys can link up with each other and stuff.( even if its hours of driving :)) wish i had that privaledge. I'd luv to learn some stuff from u more experienced fellaz. I def will give u a shout the next time i;m in that neck of the woods.

Way to go Darren! I loved it, especially the look you got. It was retro but still modern if thats makes any sense?

It looked like one of those real fun weddings where everyone was part of the filming action!
Great work, and I look FWD to your next one which i'm sure you'll do!

thanks shaun...means alot coming from the wedding guru :D. those are your settings by the way with only shutter, detail and master ped only slighty different .Also a slight bump in contrast in post. But really it was your scene file .Worked out really good. So thank you for that. Apart from the hecticness of it it was fun. Apart of the reason i didnt wanna do it was cuz he's a good friend and i was invited as a guest...lol...so i wanted to kick back and wathc my friend get married and chill. However i'm also glad i didnt leave it up to some half assed person to do it cuz wedding videography SUCKS out here. If i was serious about it i think i prolly could make a good living from it. Its all really from you guys and dvxuser so thanks ALOT. this place is a wealth of knowledge!!

I have a question for you wedding videographers. On average...how long does it take you guys to do edit the final full wedding?

Hey Darren, well, my last wedding I think I ended up with 6 or 7 hours of footy, I edited that down to a 2 hour DVD and it took me 5 weeks and 4 days! Thats also including the time it took me to print all the DVD's and covers etc.

ok kool...not so bad. since this was a favour i told him i;d be doing it bewteen jobs but i'd also like to get it to them in a decent timeframe. He was like" is 2 months fine"? i thought that should be more than enough.

Hey Shaun-
What do you give them on your average 2 hr DVD ?
Trailer (1.5 minutes avg?)
Ceremony (Start to finish in its entirety? avg 20-30 min?)
Dinner/toasts/reception (1- 1 1/2 hrs?)

Do you MB the ceremony and dinner/reception or just the trailer?

3 chapters?

thanks,
Chuck

Chuck and Darren, this is a typical DVD that I produce for the couple.

1.Morning at Bride and Grooms Locations getting ready 1/2 hour each.
2. Ceremony in full ( usually half to one hour) and I never cut this so this takes up most of the content.
3. Film the photoshoot with their photographer
4. Reception Introductions
5. Reception snippets of the guests enjoying themselves
6. Speeches
7. Cutting of cake
8. Bridal Dance
9. Dancing and candid footage along with some interviews with the guests
10. Bon Voyage!

And usually a 1 to 2 min trailer and an extended 4 to 5 min trailer.
It can get pretty involved with the chapter menu's!

Opps almost forgot, as far a CC goes, I usually leave the Ceremony raw and Speeches raw and CC everything else with MB.

Looks badass, and the lack of dissolves is sick. Real editors don't need dissolves, and that's why porn has so many. Yea, I have done a couple, and now I don't tell people no, I just give them a rediculous estimate to scare them off. The worst is friends and family, because they think that they are helping you out by paying you, but it never is anything. Then they ruin your life by telling their friends about you. Well done Jambrez.
