GH2 First 5 minutes of Vesubio's film, 'Musgo'

Seriously, even the most respectable indie features are almost always plagued with odd sound quirks and slightly tinny / hollow sound, but this is for real. I'm definitely impressed. I want to know how he got an NTG-2 to sound like that and how he did his foley.

It's just proximity, getting the mic in close at the right angle. If A good boom op can't get good professional quality from an ntg2, he should find a new job. it's not all that hard if you know what your doing. Thats not to say this wasn't really good. it is, but it takes a good master in order to enhance in post.

I definitely agree. I don't mean to say that the NTG-2 or a comparable mic sounds bad in the slightest. I'm just uber sensitive to the way things sound. Despite that you can get a completely professional sound from that mic doesn't mean it will sound "hollywood". There's a certain kind of tonality to dialog in films, that I think is kind of an art (one I'd really like to learn one day) and has a very specific feel to it. I'm guessing it has far more to do with post processing than anything. As long as the boom doesn't fudge up in a major way or your recorder isn't crap, you should always be able to record pro level sound with that mic.

The impressive thing is the level of detail on his close ups. You can see every wrinkle, every freckle and the skin has tonality. Most of the sub $10,000 cameras turn skin into a plastic paste mess.

I'll always remember Vesubio for his unselish sharing of information. When I picked up my first GH2, and was searching for a loupe, I saw his BTS video. He was using a Varavon loupe. I sent him an email, trying to learn more about it. He wrote back saying that, even though he liked the one he used, a better one would be their, as yet unreleased GH2 Loupe EX Supporter. This is the one that swivels. I bought one on his recommendation, and it has helped me in my work tremendously. (I shoot a LOT of handheld.)

Thanks, Vesubio, congratulations on your film!

I am impressed with this...I was drawn in immediately. Someone said something about the genre earlier...
From viewing the trailer on another thread, I don't think this is a genre type film...which is what is so intriguing about the first scene- It makes me want to see how it all gets to that point. Very much like the first scenes of Memento. Something horrible happens and then you go back to see how it all unfolds.

I have to say the quality he got from the GH2 is almost unbelievable. I can't remember the last time I have seen even F3 footage this good. If somebody knows of some please post a link. I'm not talking about the grade or the style. I'm talking about sharpness, tonality and overall image quality. It was razor sharp without looking edge enhanced, sharp without looking over contrasty, with none of the over saturation you normally see to try to hide lackluster footage.
