Firmware

I've been keeping my eye on Sony for a few years now, and it seems they have been pretty generous with feature addons through firmware. I recall both FS100 and FS700 getting some pretty significant upgrades through firmware. I wonder if they will treat the A7s to something similar. I'm thinking of you 10 bit output. Wonder if that's even technically possible with this little cam?

Only Sony knows if it is technically possible: it depends on the capabilities of the processor.

My bet would be that it's not possible: AFAIK, the FS100 only has 8-bit hdmi output, and that probably is because it uses a standard BIONZ processor (the same one that is inside my NEX-5N) which can't do any better. The FS700 uses a different processor (I haven't been able to find its name, but it seems it's not the BIONZ). The a7s uses the newer BIONZ-X processor, which is also found in the a7, a7r, a6000, a77-II, RX100-III, etc. Given that it is actually costly, I really doubt they would put 10-bit capability in a chip that's not going to use that feature 99.9% of the time.
