Firmware upgrade has failed!

My camera has now been sitting there with black screen and blinking light for over four hours.

I have double checked everything and did everything right.

I have to leave and turn off studio power so (O.K. I'm in trouble, aren't I!!), any suggestions?

Thanks,

Vaughan

Hi Vaughan. Before I suggest anything. Can you please re account your process step by step that got you to now, including which system youre on.

The other thing is if it truly wont complete the update say overnight (which shouldnt be the case anyway), the only thing you could do is then try to turn it off and on and see where you are. If she cranks up - check the system info and see if it took, if not try again. If it doesnt boot up it will have to go in - and being a panasonic issued firmware upgrade all should be fine under warranty.

Ditto what Noel said. It should have brought up a Updating screen within minutes of going to update. It does go to a blackout screen for a bit ant then comes back on with an Updating reassurance.

Good Luck,

Jan

I had the same issue (although I didn't wait 4 hours, I unplugged the power after 40 minutes..), then I downloaded and copied the firmware to the card FROM A PC instead of my mac, put the card into slot1, then connected the power cable, turned on the camera and it immediately started updating. I went out for a shoot the same day!

Sorry to hear that Vaughan.

@ DutchFX Ive done two cameras via mac without incident.

Hi Everyone,

Pleased to report that I have my camera back, but my wallet is $137.00 lighter!

Apparently I didn't do anything wrong with the files on the card correct, but I used a 16 GB Panasonic SDHC card, (formatted in the camera), and the repairers think that may have caused the shutdown, the card being too big. (I do use PCs - not Macs).

When they flashed the camera and used a 1 GB SD card, the camera accepted the upgrade.

Who knows??

Thanks for your sympathy, and I'm glad to say the LCD is now MUCH closer in colour to the viewfinder! (Mine had quite a strong green tint before).

Cheers,

Vaughan

I used a 16GB Sandisk for my upgrade with no problems. Copied the files to the SD card with a Mac and ran the patch app.

Not buying that the card was too big -- I used a 16 GB Panasonic SDHC card to upgrade my firmware and it worked like a charm. I also copied the files to the SD card with a Mac and ran the patch app.

I don't buy their theory, I used a 16GB Sandisk with no problems.
