GH3 Firmware Update for Cinelikes for Gh3?? Wouldn't that be terrific!

Hi, All. I'm new to DVX, although a longtime contributor on BMCUser. My work is exclusively doc-based for places like PBS and Al Jazeera news, as of late. I cover prisons, border conflicts, criminal justice, etc. I say this solely because this means my turnover can be swift...and I don't have the luxury of being weighed down by gear.

Recently, after a series of screenings with my colleagues for a forthcoming short we assessed (surprisingly!) that our best looking footage to date was achieved on the GH3 and our Voigtlander series (17.5 / 25).

Our BMCC was hit-or-miss based of course on the achievements of color grading---which we, honestly, aren't very good at doing. Initially, we had sold all of our Panny gear for BMCC/BMPCC but now, we've re-purchased the GH's & Voigts to return to a look that seemed to make our producers very happy. So, my question for you all here is whether there are any rumors or reasons to believe Panasonic might add the Cinelike D or V profiles for the GH3? I wonder if there's a way to replicate those profiles on the GH3....Thanks again, and looking forward to visiting these boards. Kind regards,Deb

It's not really super related to your question, but I and a lot of other GH4 shooters have been leaning away from Cine-d / Cine-v. It's colour accuracy isn't all that good, and it can produce some odd skin tones. Those were my reasons for not using it.

I've been using Natural dialled down.

Here's some comparison shots someone else did, I think they're planning on doing a more thorough test with delta value comparisons to see exactly where Cine-d is introducing problems. It's in line with my experience of Cine-D.

wow, we just noted this very thing to each other about Cine D in particular. Haven't run test on Cine V quite yet.

FYI, we use the Standard profile on GH3 with only sat -3 and sharpness -5, all others at 0. Looks gorgeous with the Voigts with a tad color correction in post. Thanks for the link---I'm looking forward to reading.

In my experience, Cine V sucks much less and is easier to match with an AF100. With just GH4, I also keep gravitating to Natural.

Panasonic is not big on adding features via firmware updates.

We also used Natural with the GH3 & sometimes still do with the GH4, especially if switching back 'n forth between motion & stills (where CineLike is not available & the GH4 defaults to Standard). Many times Natural looks better than the CineLikes, but we have a long form documentary that's been going on for years which started in CineLike-D & our editors are used to it, so we plod along.
