Firmware Update / Compatibility Issues?

So, I'm waiting a while now for my camera to ship, and I pinged the dealer and got the following:

"There was a delay (not sure if you heard) for some compatibility issues with the format and a few NLE's systems, however I'm told this batch has the issue corrected with firmware update, so you should have one of the new and "improved" models within the next 1-2 weeks."

Anyone hear any more detail about this?

AVCCAM Viewer
●AVCCAM Restorer contents repair software

(Contained in the supplied CD-ROM as accessory)
------------------------------------------------------------

AVCCAM Restorer does not repair clip which was deleted.
AVCCAM Restorer repairs “Inconsistent data clip” which was made by abnormal recording finalization of the clip during recording.

“Inconsistent data clip” can be made when AVCCAM could not complete data file saving normally.
Especially, this could happen if battery was removed or such forced power discontinuation was occurred.
However, this will not happen during recording by battery remain time become empty or turn off the Power switch.

When a SD card with “Inconsistent data clip” is inserted and power is turned ON a repair verification dialogue of [REPAIR CLIP? YES/NO] will be displayed.
Select [NO] to switch directory to the recording paused screen to continue recording without repairing at this time.

“Inconsistent data clip” can still be repaired by using PC which is installed the “AVCCAM Restorer”

Precaution for use:
1. Depending on the status of the data, it may not be possible to restore all data completely.
2. If the recording was made with TC: RECRUN, the starting TC of the repaired clip will be same with the clip right after the “Inconsistent data clip” was recorded.
3. For about 4 seconds from the end of the recording may not be repaired.
4. Depending on the status of the data, the thumbnail icon may not be repaired.
5. Meta data attached during recording cannot be repaired.

You can also find “FAQ” on the AVCVAM Viewer, Restorer.

It isn't firmware, but it does involve some NLEs ?

Given how many shops like to take preorders/orders when they expect stock instead of have stock, you may be getting stroked.

I'm going to guess it's a made up excuse, the camera was out before its expected release date without any holdups. Unless someone claims and proves that the camera's files are not within the AVCHD specs, there is nothing wrong with the camera. Right now the problems are with the NLEs themselves.

I got that release too, but didn't think there was anything really new in there. Seems to be answering some FAQs and updating their docs. Think we'll see the "clunk" question in the next update? :)

I'm also concerned for my camera. If affected, I wonder how the issue will be address to early adapters.

Let's not go into a "stock market is crashing" frenzy here folks. I'm confident that the camera is fine, everyone else just needs to catch up

Firmware is simply the camera's operating system / software. Most complex gizmos these days have their software uploaded to flash ROM. This allows the manufacturer the ability to release firmware updates for bug fixes and new features (don't hold your breath). This was done for the HVX200, I see no reason why it couldn't be done with this camera if needed.

Hardware specific problems could not be fixed this way, but I haven't seen any issues pop up yet. Not worth worrying or spreading rumors over. Besides, you shouldn't take anything a salesperson says as truth :D

mcsmooth is exactly, right and if there is a firmware update, it can be updated by you with an SD card, a desktop/laptop computer and an internet connection.
