firewire secure system ?

has anyone thought of or perhaps designed a way of better securing the firewire connection (s) when using a firestore (or like product) for handheld shots ?

I personally have not used a Firestore DTE or like product for aquisition yet I have much experience with fragile and tempramental firewire ports on both cameras and PCs ... and thus, I would expect this to be an obvious problem when moving with the camera in a dynamic shooting environment

any knowledge or ideas in this regard are welcome and appreciated

cheers !

yes ... of course we can (and I do) use gaffer tape for securing cables etc...

I was/am searching for a bit higher tech solution

I've already got some ideas that I think might work - will post them when I have something worth showing

cheers

Actually.. this is one thign that Sony did get right with the FX1 (and the Z1 too maybe?).. the firewire port actually stickes out of the side of the camera and faces down, so the cable doesn't jot out but rather falls back alongside the camera. It could still pull out (that's what the tape is for) but it won't kill your connector :)

I seem to recall Neutrik has made a lockign firewire connector.. basically a standard 6pin FW connector inside a BNC collar to lock it.

I've been wondering about this as well. On the HVX there's a screw about 1" away from the firewire connector; seems like someone could mold a firewire cable locking cover plate that would attach securely via that screw maybe?
