firewire recording device

Re: firewire recording device

You mentioned that you heard of problems with the "QuickStream" unit !

What kind of problems ?

Looking at other units such as "Firestore"; "nNOVIA" it looks like "QuickStream" is smaller and more flexible in how you may want to mount/use it.

I would use the unit on my waist and my main thought is that the cable connection output from my SONY DSR200A would be an issue in that it could work itself loose with all the handling of the camcorder at the "Reception" (I am a Videographer and do "Weddings").

I shot a wedding a few weeks ago with nNovia QuickCapture slung around my waist, or tripod. No problems at all. I actually shoot on nothing but the Quickcapture now, and find it invaluable. The Firewire cable is secure, as long as you don't trip over it or get it hung up on anything.

Just search this board, you'll find reports from many users about many problems with the QuickStream.

The QuickCapture and the FireStore are more expensive, but they also a) work, and b) offer a lot more features, such as the ability to play clips back.

Re: firewire recording device

Quickstream, Firestore and the others are cool.

But now for about 1500$ and the same size you can get this real PC with 5" 16/9 screen and Windows XP running all the capture software you want

Interesting but at 20 Gig is the hard drive really big enough. If not, considering its size, can you upgrade it?

Having a PC as as HDR opens up alot of possibilties but as we all know PC's like to not work at the worse moments and sometimes for no good reason. In the field I not sure if I want to trust my footage to a pc. I'd have to backing up my stuff on tape at the same time. Never the less I think this a glimpse of things to come.
