Firewire Issues

ok, I'm fairly new here. I usually just read things but now I have to post.

Nothing happens when I plug the DVX100b into the PC via firewire. I've done this at least ten times before, and now.. nothing happens. It's not the card, I tested it with other devices. I tried hooking the DVX up with firewire to USB and the camera lights up and windows XP detects it as unknown hardware. My question is, if the camera reacts when its plugged in via usb, why does nothing happen with firewire? Does anyone know a fix for this? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Check your firewall settings. If you recently hooked up to a new internet connection, sometimes the firewire port gets set to some sort of network firewall default. I had this happen on a mac, don't know where to reset it on a pc, though.
