Firewire card problem !?

Hi everyone.. I own a DVX100B and am trying to capture into my PC running XP.. via the firwire card. The problem is that the computer just won't recognise the device - there's the bubble saying that Windows does indeed recognise the device then when I try to capture; it's as if I disconnect the device / like it disappears. VERY odd? Anyway - to troubleshoot; I tried capturing another cam, I have an old JVC DV cam and the same thing happened: Windows says 'YES we got it', then try to capture and there's just nothing. So its not the DVX.

I tried installling another firewire card.. same thing happened so surely not the card either.. ?

I also tried capturing both cams to another XP computer (an old laptop) and it worked! So something in my chain is flawed..

I am running XP and Premiere. I even tried to see if Windows Movie Maker would recognise it and the same thing happened..

It's sending me frickin insane.. any advice greatly appreciated!

Sorry to say but I am a member of this club too.. I am about to pull what's left to my hair out. No computer will detect my dvx100b. I'm thinking that somehow I damaged the connection.

I've had this problem for the last 5 months! My Vista laptop won't recognize my DVX, or my cheaper camcorder either! At least yours sorta recognizes it; absolutely nothing happens when I plug mine in (via Firewire card).....I've tried everything!.... But last month I pretty much decided I'm gonna save up for a Mac and FCP....I'll be in debt forever :(

Post something if you find a solution though! Curse windows!
