Firewire Cable Length

Hi All,
Does anyone know if there are issues associated with the length of firewire cable? Just purchased a 16' 9-pin cable, I am worried that the long length will effect my transfer speed significantly (using LaCie 250 external drive). thanks

Re: Firewire Cable Length

I think that's within the specs so should be ok. Easiest way is to run a disk speed test with it and and a short cable. There are free disk speed test available to download, jsut do a search.

Yes there are issues, the longest cable length supported by the IEEE1394 spec is 4.5 meters (about 15 feet).

Re: Firewire Cable Length

Not to hijack, but I run a 25' firewire cable with DV Rack. It works fine most of the time, but one time I did have the camera and DV rack stop communicating. I just thought that DV rack was messed up, but now I know it might have been the cable length.
