firewire blues for dvx100b

ok, here's a query - have heard about the potential firewire 'fry' when going FW 4-pin from the cam to a 6-pin 1394 port on a PC. OK, now I've heard about using a 4-pin adapter to a 6-pin port (4pin-4pin w/adapter). As I understand it, there should be no power exchange, hence no chance of a fried port on the cam...right/wrong? And, yes, I'm limited to FW400 for now...dang it.

I'm not sure if I can answer your question, but I'll save you a lot of hassles by warning you not to ever capture on your shooting camera (tape driven). Its useless head-wear and you'll start dropping frames.

Get a capture cam.

Why wouldn't the six-pin port on the computer be sending power? If you always firmly insert the six-pin first, you won't have problems and you won't need to think about it if your setup changes.

Don't worry about the heads of the DVX wearing out—no one has ever reported this.
