would it be reasonable to assume that if my camera (hpx170) works properly with adobe onlocation via firewire - that my cams firewire port is in working order?

for some reason when connecting as a 1394 device to my macpro, one of two things happens:
1. transfers a 16 gig card in like 45 min
2. simply fails repeatedly to mount. but eventually does...

thoughts anyone?

camera transfers beautifully (aand surprisingly quickly) via usb.
 
tried different ports, different cables. and i would assume that if other firewire devices work that its not the computer...

im flummoxed.
 
i average about 1 out of 3 firewire connections when hooking up to my FCS3 mac pro tower. my older HVX200 is everytime. weird and annoying i agree.
 
yeah, for transfer connecting im at about 1 out of 5 tries. but its worked every time - first time for use with onlocation. this tells me its something in the firewire device hardware inside the camera...
 
I had a terrible time with a rented HVX, turns out I needed both a new firewire cable and I had two burned out ports on my mac pro. Very confusing to diagnose
