Firewire 800 question

Question for you tech heads:

I'm looking into offload options for the HVX. I know you can offload directly to a firewire drive....and that it has to be firewire 400. BUT, can you use a Firewire 400 (4pin) to Firewire 800 (9pin) cable with an 800 drive? In other words, can you fool the bus into thinking you have a 400 drive by simply using the cable? Any body try this at home? I already have a little G-Tech mini drive with only 800 ports and would love to use it.

Not problem isn't with drive. It is how fast the HVX200 transfers.

I don't know whether that is a FW100 or faster.

I don't need the full 800mbs transfer...just wondering whether the HVX will read a FW800 drive straight from the camera.

It will basically be the same setup as with an HVX direct to FW400 offload, except with a FW400 to FW800 cable going to a FW800 drive. No laptop involved. Will this work?
