Firewire: 400 vs. 800

I recently purchased a 15' firewire cable to connect my 100a to my iBook. I noticed that as I scroll scenes, the monitor does not seem to keep up with the lcd. Can this problem be solved by switching from a 400 to 800 cable? Or maybe a shorter cable?

I don't think ibooks have Firewire 800 and I know that the issue you are having has nothing to do with firewire 400 being too slow. I use firewire 400 to capture and firewire 800 to connect my Drives to my Powerbook and never have an issue. The this you are seing is a delay that is normal with DV, once you actually capture your footage there should be no issue.

Yes, a little bit of lag is perfectly normal when scrubbing through tapes via firewire 400. I am not aware that final cut pro or any DV devices on the market support Firewire 800? Only external drives and other non video-only devices.
