Firestore VS Tape?

So....lets say my heads all of sudden go out, bad, dead and I dont have money to repair but I do have a Firestore. Then i dont have to worry about anything really...right? Its better to capture to an external source like a Firestore than to tape? What about DIY "firestore"?? Anything like that out there?

Install a cheap editing software that allows live capture. Use a USB or FireWire and just have some kind of small surface attached to your tripod (I dont know, just quick thinking here), to place the PC and do live capture onto the 16GB SSD?? I think it might work:huh:

Firestore is much better. I believe you will achieve more resolution with DVC Pro50.

There is another way to record without using the tape drive on a DVX100(A)(B): You can use another, cheaper miniDV camera as a slave unit to do all of your recording. Here's how:
