FireStore Recording Control

We're using a a 20ft jib and attaching firestore with the camera. The question is, how can you control firestore on when to record and stop if nobody can physically be near it?

Use a couple of 10' firewire cables with a hardware repeater between them. Mount the firestore down near the operator and start/stop manually.

Other than that, the firestore should start/stop whenever you trigger the camera to start/stop, but I don't know that I would 100% trust that; I'd rather see the FS and know that it's recording.

I use a 16 jib with firestore mounted next to preview LCD. It uses a 14' FW cable.. never a problem

Thanks for the heads up on the repeater. Do you know if I can import footage from FS100 into FCP 4.5? (yeah I know I need to upgrade)

Yes you should be able to capture from the FS-100 in FCP 4.5. You could also record directly on the FS-100 in Quicktime mode, which should be importable into 4.5.

Yes, but the quicktime mode has proven very unreliable. I work quite often with 4 other HVX/FS-100 operators and all get more frequent corrupted clips in QT mode. To be safe I would always record P2.
