Firestore problem

Just recently captured to a Firestore HD-100, shot at 720p and captured to quicktime as the client requested. They have told me the files work and play back but they have random glitches like a type of drop out every now and then on the clips. Any idea what this would be?

We shot on our JVC HD100 camera not our 500 so we have tape backup as well. (lucky)

Hi Gary, would love to help but only ever shot the HD100 to tape. Cant think for the life of me what would be the issue though, outside a dodgy connection somewhere between your FS and cam.

I'm having a problem. Client sent a Firestore. Shooting 720pN with the HPX500.
Once the firestore worked (counter rolled) when it was hooked up to an HVX test camera. Then it stopped rolling. Tried with the HPX and it doesn't work. This is our first time with a firestore (hopefully last since it's a waste of time/$) but does anyone have suggestions?

OR can anyone sugges what exactly the camera and Firestore settings should be. Happy to just hit record on firestore if we can get it working.

Local control, yes?

The first thing I'd ask is has the firestore been formated already or are the clips still on the drive?

If there are in fact glitches on the clips, I'm not certain there is anything that can be done about it at this point without the original media. First thing to try to figure out would be whether they were recorded this way onto the Firestore, or did it occur on transfer to the hard drive.

I've only ever shot with an FS-100 with the HVX, and the only time I've ever experienced a 'glitch' was when my firewire port got fried and developed a short.
Otherwise my footage on the firestore has always been rock solid.

Have you checked your camera since then, and have you shot anything else to the firestore since?

Like I said, I'm not sure their footage will be fixable, but hopefully you can at least trace back the cause.

Like Noel said - my first guess would be a faulty connection of some kind.
You may want to check your cable before anything else.

EDITED TO ADD:
Don, you may want to start a new thread for your specific question.
Let's not hijack Gary's thread.
Thanks.

i had similar issues with the fs100 and hvx200. multi-colored blocks would show up now and then. also, if you moved the camera too much the connection between it and the firestore would be lost. we may have had a loose firewire port.

yes the FW ports are a problem. I tried to find right angle ones over here in europe and had no luck. Found one supplier in USA but shipping was 50$ for 1 friggin cable :-(

Unfortunately the drive has already been formatted. I'm at lost to what it is because I’ve never had that problem with it before; I was thinking it may be a QuickTime error as it was the first time we recorded to that codec.

I'm just glad I went to tape as well!
