Hi Everyone

Great Forum. I just got my HVX and FS100 about a week ago and what i have been trawling this site and others looking for is any advice on being about to transfer PAL VFR files from Firestore to FCP 5.1.2. If this is possible with the most current firmware and 5.1.2 could soemone let meknow and maybe even offer a few simple instructions.

Thanks,

Dom

Is your FS-100 a PAL model? Do you mean MXF files rather than VFR? FCP 5.1.2 has a P2 import window that's really nice. Should be all you need.

So, sorry if the question is dumb but , I mean variable frame rate not mfx, yes I have a PAL model and I have imported via the P2 window but when I get what I thought would be slomo files into FCP - shot filmcam mode 720p at 50fps - the playback is not slomo. Am i missing something simple?

Download my tutorial (in my signature below), it'll apply. For variable frame rates treat the FS-100 just like a P2 card. Do not use the advanced pulldown when you import into FCP. Once in FCP, use the "DVCPRO HD Frame Rate Converter" in the tools menu. If you don't see it, you'll find it on the FCS Installation DVD in the Extras folder.

Use that to conform the VFR clips to your Sequence. That is the proper proceedure. Works like a charm. It'll let you conform you VFR clips to the fps of your Sequence.

I think that FCP doesn't support variable frame rate from 720p50 right now. Just today I try it althought they said that it doesn't support it. The frames are there, in the clip, but like you can't change the frame rate of the sequence, you only see 25fps.

Try this trick: export the clip from FCP or Quicktime Pro to an image sequence: it export every frame that exist in the clip (50 every second) in an image and then re-import that image sequence in FCP. It only works if you record in a frame rate of 50fps. If not, they generate repeated frames.

Good luck :)

Variable Frame Rate conforms to the frame rate of the Sequence, you don't set a Sequence for variable frame rate. You set the sequence to your editing time base. You use the FRC tool to conform it. Not sure how the FRC works in PAL land at this time.

Thanks for the responses. I was missing the frame rate converter but when I tried to apply at it to the clip i got an error telling me that only 60 was supported and the tool couldn't be used on my clip.

Looks like PAL is not currently supported. I am dissapointed as the VFR was a big selling point for me.

Fill out the FCP feedback page and tell all your friends to do it, too. Apple may just release a PAL version of the FRC very soon. But, you have to let them know there's a demand for it.

In FCP, look under the FCP menu for the FCP Feedback command. It'll launch your browser and take you to the on-line feedback page at Apple's support site.

Thanks Ben I was wondering how to go about that. Your responses are much appreciated.
